Fifth Third Bank Family Pavilion at Navy Pier slated for spring 2018 completion

CHICAGO – Navy Pier, Chicago’s mission-driven cultural district, and Fifth Third Bank are expanding their partnership with the naming of the reimagined Family Pavilion. Currently under construction, the completed space at the Pier’s historic entrance is set to debut as Fifth Third Bank Family Pavilion at Navy Pier in spring 2018.

The multiyear naming partnership represents the ongoing investment by Navy Pier and Fifth Third Bank to deliver world-class experiences that embody the Pier’s values of excellence, inclusion, integrity and stewardship.

“Fifth Third Bank has been, and continues to be, an outstanding partner to Navy Pier, especially during this critical time of transformation,” said Navy Pier President and CEO Marilynn Gardner. “Their extended and expanded investment in our vision underscores their dedication to the Chicago community and helps further advance our mission as the People’s Pier.”

The announcement comes as Fifth Third concludes its title partnership of the successful two-year Fifth Third Bank Centennial Celebration at Navy Pier, in recognition of the Pier’s 100th anniversary. Fifth Third is also the title partner of the 2016 and 2017 Fifth Third Bank Winter WonderFest.

“The Fifth Third Bank Centennial Celebration at Navy Pier was an incredible experience,” said Fifth Third Bank Regional Chairman Robert A. Sullivan. “It gave us an opportunity to get to know the ‘People’s Pier’ intimately. Navy Pier’s cultural programming, year-round events and future plans are aligned with our focus areas of giving – education, community, economic and workforce development, and the environment. We are proud to have hosted programming at the Pier – from our financial empowerment workshops, to giving 100 free Centennial Wheel rides to 100 nonprofit partners, to our Veterans Day of Appreciation Hiring Fair.”

“Fifth Third Bank’s decision to deepen its partnership with Navy Pier was an easy one, given the Pier’s special place in history and in the hearts and minds of Chicagoans,” said Fifth Third Bank Regional President Eric S. Smith. “Navy Pier is an unmatched economic engine, fueled by tourism, corporate support, small business and thousands of terrific local employees. We are also proud to increase our investment in Chicago by bringing to life the bold and forward-thinking vision of Fifth Third Bank Family Pavilion. We look forward to building new relationships with Pier partners, exhibitors, vendors and businesses, and we are confident that the transformation of the Family Pavilion will significantly benefit the great city of Chicago.”

Fifth Third Bank Family Pavilion will be an architecturally stunning facility designed by Gensler, widely recognized as the world’s leading collaborative design firm, to welcome the Pier’s 9.3 million annual guests. Featuring new contemporary market fronts, it will be a platform for artisans and retailers uniquely rooted in Chicago’s identity. Fifth Third Bank Family Pavilion also will provide a dramatic and modern point of connection to Chicago Children’s Museum, Crystal Gardens and a myriad of other Pier amenities, creating a cultural destination and hub of year-round activity.

The Fifth Third Bank partnership is the latest major contribution to Navy Pier’s redevelopment efforts, following a legacy gift from the Polk Family and grants from the Polk Bros. Foundation for Polk Bros Park and related programs, and generous support from People’s Gas and Aon, recognized with the naming of the Peoples Energy Welcome Pavilion, to be completed late 2018, and the Aon Grand Ballroom.
